Saint Patricks Day Crafts for kids
Saint Patrick’s Day is something I always celebrated as a kid. I have wonderful memories making Leprechaun traps as a kid with my siblings. It has been so fun to carry on the tradition of celebrating St. Pats Day with my girls.
I love to do crafts with them weekly. This helps them entertained and using their imagination.
It also keeps them on one activity for longer than 5 minutes so that is a huge win!!! Doing crafts and activities with your kids that are centered around holidays will help them have good memories of those days.
Your kiddos will love these simple and fun craft ideas! Here are some of my personal favorites.
Marshmallow stamps:
These are so fun and simple. Which is totally my favorite. As a mom of 3 littles simple is my go to. All you need is green paint, paper, and marshmallows.
Let the kids use the marshmallow as a stamp in a cluster that resembles a 3-4 leaf clover. After this activity we use the rest of the bag of marshmallows and make rice krispies. It is just a day filled with connecting and spending time together!
Leprechaun traps:
As a child the day before Saint Patrick’s Day we would take show boxes/boxes and make a leprechaun trap. We would all sit there and make up elaborate ideas on how to catch a leprechaun. My mom let us use anything from around the house (within reason)
If you need inspiration for leprechaun traps Pinterest is a wealth of ideas. There is so many cute and creative ideas. I always let my kiddos pick what they trap the leprechaun with.
That night when they go to bed I have the '“leprechaun get through the trap” by tripping all the traps, and leaving a note on how they did it. I take the prize that the kids placed there to tempt the leprechaun and leave candy.
It is just such a fun magical moment when they wake up and see how the leprechaun got away and eating candy.
Craft Stick Leprechaun Hats:
While on Pinterest looking for craft ideas I saw the cutest little Leprechaun hats from craft sticks. I adore scouring Pinterest for craft ideas. It is such a wealth of crafts and inspiration.
My kids loved the activity and it was such a good memory made. This craft does involve painting, but thankfully my kids are super into painting right now! I also have a ton of paint we need to use up. So another win win.
The instructions I followed were from The Resourceful Mama, I will link her post here.
Finger-paint rainbow:
I think finger painting is such a pure and simple childhood activity.
Kids love to get messy and create, finger painting is something that lets them do both!! I used to shy away from activities like this because I didn’t want to clean up a huge mess or ruin a ton of clothes.
But you know what, the messes will not last, and they out grow those clothes so quick anyway. I have my 3 year old help a tad bit cleaning up to help teach responsibility. And I have certain clothes we use for painting that I am not worried about ruining.
By getting rid of the mindset that I don’t want to make messes, it opened so many doors on fun activities like this one!!
Finger painting the rainbow will also give you a create opening to talk about colors! Or count how many dots make up each row. Win win am I right?
Leprechaun binoculars:
Crafting a fun life has a great post about how to make the cutest Leprechaun Binoculars. I will link it here.
We made them and we had a blast looking through them and trying to find Leprechauns and lucky four leaf clovers. I love activities like this because it so easy for the girls to use their imagination and explore the world.
The girls had such a good time, your kids will love looking for those silly little Leprechauns and going on an adventure to find them. You could even use the binoculars to look for fairies.
You could also take these to the park and hunt for treasures left from a Leprechaun or something to put in your trap to attract the Leprechaun into the trap!
Let your kids imagination go wild and have fun!
Q tip shamrocks:
My 3 year old loved this craft and it was so darn fun. You just need paper, Q-tips, and green paint.
Use the Q-tip as a paintbrush and dot 3 circles then add a little stem. You can make a picture and then add shamrocks to it or just have a paper full of cute little shamrocks.
We added a twist of adding flowers around the shamrocks. It kept her entertained her for a long while and was super easy to clean up. Which is my favorite kind of craft, fun, simple, AND easy to clean!!!!
Lucy had such a good time making these that we had a ton of of them. So we used them to decorate the whole house and had one in each room. It is so fun to see her walk by them and be so proud that some of her artwork is up for everyone to see.
Conclusion:
I love a holiday that we can turn into some fun crafts ideas! Saint Patrick’s Day is no exception there. You can make so many fun themed crafts with your kiddos.
Your kids will be so entertained and make lasting memories with you. In my mind there is nothing better. I want my kids to look back on holidays like this with fond memories like I do.
Doing themed crafts and saving them also helps build up the decor for the next year! And then you can recreate the craft and see how they improve or change their creativity.
We hope you have a wonderful Saint Patrick’s day full of green, love, and crafts! You got this Momma!
