Bible stories your kids should know

The Bible is a big book and can be a daunting task to teach to your children. There is so many parables and stories in the Bible that will help you raise your children the way that our Lord intended. Reading these stories and talking to our kids about them will help them have a firm foundation of faith.

Learning about the Bible and planting that seed of faith all start in the home. As a mother it is such a beautiful part of our role to assist in showing our kids our faith and willingness to give to the Lord. Starting with these stories your kiddos will have the base they need to continue on in life to what to learn and live the gospel.

How Christ was born:

Head to the Bible and read with them Luke Chapter 2. Now, the birth of Christ is in several different books in the Bible, but I found Luke to be the best for my kids to understand.

It’s so important that our children have a deep love and understanding of Christ and his sacrifice. Beginning to understand what he has done starts with knowing the circumstances and miracle that brought Him here.

Christmas is such an amazing time to sit down and speak about his birth and the real meaning about the holiday. Get some books and talk to your kids about how as born. We have puzzles, coloring pages, and books about Christ laying in a manger.

Even if Christmas is not near, there is never a bad time to teach your children about Christ.

The Good Samaritan:

The story of the Good Samaritan is a great example of loving your neighbor and treating others with kindness. One of the commandments that Jesus gave us is to love each other, turn the other cheek, and to give back. This story is a beautiful proverb to express those actions that Christ asked us to do.

The Good Samaritan is a wonderful way to teach your kids that compassion and generosity are key points to live your life by. It is SO easy these days to focus on just us, the world is big on focus on you. It’s so easy to be me, me, me. But it is VERY important to teach kiddos to give to others.

Especially kids are worried about them and what they want. This story from the Bible is a perfect story to show them that kindness and loving others is more important. Doesn’t matter who they are, where they are from, what they look like, Christ calls us to help and love everyone.

Christ and the woman who gave the oil:

In Luke 7:36-50 is where you can find this story. But the importance of this one is that Christ knew she was a sinner, and he let her touch him and wash his feet with her tears, hair, and scented oil. The Pharisees thought that he was not from God since if he knew what she was ( a sinner) they would not let her do this.

But Christ told them she brought with all that she was. She washed his feet and submitted to him. While she had sinned often, he did not turn her away because she loved him and had such strong faith.

Teaching our kids that Christ meets us where we are, in life, in our sin, and with what we can give Him. Christ does not need huge acts, but what we can give him. Maybe we do not have thousands of dollars to give Him, but if we give him what we can He will be there. He will forgive us. She did not have much yet she gave her all to him. We should learn from this example and do the same.

Bring the kids unto Jesus:

It is so amazing that Christ mentions little kids, their faith, and how important they are. Telling your kids that Christ loved them and find them important will help increase there confidence. As well as make them want to know more about Him. Kids will be more interested knowing that Christ loved them. They want to be liked, and this story reminds them that the Lord loves them.

Jesus loved kids and even said that Kingdom of God belongs to them such as these. (Referring to the kids). Knowing this story will help show that Christ loves you. Children are so important and honored by Him. So why not let them know? Let them soak in the love that is Christ and how He will welcome them to come sit with Him and be near.

My 4 yr old LOVES this story. Kids want to be liked and it is such a boost to know that the one who died for them wants them! Wants them to come unto him and listen to His words. Letting your kids know that Christ welcomed and never turned a kid away will help solidify a testimony of Christ.

Adam and Eve:

Super important to teach your kids the beginning. I mean truly why not start the book on chapter one? Adam and Eve is crammed with lessons that are important. Following His rules, while also understanding that free agency is key to His plan. Taking the time to teach the kids about good and evil. Knowing that to know sadness we need to know joy.

There is so many easy pieces to understand about this story which makes it easy for the kids. God, Adam, Eve, the apple, and the snake. Kids love simplicity. This is the perfect simple bible story to get them introduced. Learning this story will always benefit your kids.

Adam and Eve is often brought up as well, so it gives a story your kids can hear and say “HEY! I know that story.” It can get your kids excited to know more about the Bible, more about what God has taught. Adam and Eve is a fantastic story to dip their toe into the world of knowing the Lord and listening to His commandments.

Noahs Ark :

Another kid favorite, since the animals are SO fun. Fisher price has a super fun Noah’s Ark Little People set that we have in nursery at church and the kids LOVE it. This one is a great one since it again shows listen to God and what He says to do, as well as numbers!!! Two by two, you can make sure that if you have a visual component you can have the kids match up the animals and count.

Noah listened to the Lord and saved his entire family. You could even talk about loyalty of God’s prophets and their families. The faith that he had to trust and build a boat, as well as his family to have such faith and trust. THey helped him build this boat instead of saying OOPS Dad is crazy lets just let him tinker on this boat alone. But no, they trusted and had the faith that this was true and their lives were saved.

If we listen to God we will be blessed and Noah is a great example of that, and a good road map for your little ones to know the. Bible and to know to trust in Him. It does not get any better than that!

Easter:

Oh man I love talking to my kids about Easter. To share the pure joy that is Christ’s sacrifice. This is the most important moment… EVER. Talking to your kids about how Christ died for our sins and that because of that we can be made clean and dwell in heaven. Dude, seriously. How could it get any better than that? Being able to share that with our girls have been one of my favorite things as a parent. To instill that faith and that love of what Christ did for us.

Giving your kids the foundation of faith in what sacrifice the Lord did will always be a blessing. Your kids will be grateful that you taught them this timeless keystone of life. Christ gave us a huge gift and guidance on how to live life. It is also a great reminder to tell our kids about Easter and how he died and then was resurrected. Even on our worst days we’ve been given this tremendous gift that makes all things possible.

Easter while a classic, it is also a holiday which gives us a really good reminder that every year we can sit down and speak about this blessing that Christ gave us!

Truly any of the Bible stories are good to know. You should teach your kids as many as you can but these are great stepping stones for making your kiddo excited about learning the Bible and all the lessons the Lord has given us.
