What the Bible says about mothers

I hear often that motherhood is ordained of God and a blessing. While I could not agree more, I wanted to dive more into the word and see exactly what the Bible says about motherhood. Here are some of the scriptures I found and that resounded with me.

Proverbs 31:23 “ She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

What a strong way to define a woman of God. Strength and dignity! Ugh that makes me so excited. So excited to be a woman and especially a woman of God.

I also will never forget that they Lord tells us we will laugh at the days to come. The world is such a scary place and I have worried about bringing kids into the world.

But what a better mindset to have, to laugh at the adversary. To raise the kids that will change the world to be the place God needs to be. The world needs more Godly children, do not fret that the world is too evil.

God will provide for your kids and they were meant to be here at this time. With a strong testimony they will not sway and will be what He intends them to be.

John 16:21 “A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.”

Man oh man is this true for me. I forget how bad labor is almost immediately. What a good thing though. I don’t want to remember truly. I want to remember the good parts!! Bringing a new life into the world.

This is all apart of His plan, the pain not being the important part of child labor (though don’t get me wrong I know it hurts) the joy that this child brings will always be more important.

With out pain truly never know comfort or contentment. We need that to compare to. Holding your baby is so much better knowing that you brought them into the world and you would do ANYTHING for this little angel.

Proverbs 31:26 “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

When you think of someone maternal who do you think of? I think of someone calm, kind, and with great advice. Which lines up with this verse.

It is a good quality in a mother to speak and teach kindness. How else do we expect to have kind kids. We can not expect our kids to be kind or speak kindly without modeling kindness.

Something that stays in my mind everyday is the way I hope my children speak about me when I am no longer around or when they speak about their childhood.

I want them to remember mom having kind words, good advice, love, joyfulness and a calmness that makes you feel at home. Which means everyday I need to work on those. I realize sometimes I expect a lot from my kids and while I think it is okay to expect things from your kids. I can work on kind words and patience.

While I wouldn’t say my words are ever unkind to my kids, they are not as kind as they can be. You can always be kinder and more full of grace. It would be a good rule of thumb to make a conscious effort everyday to say kind words to your children.

This is a good way to show your kids that you love them as well give them an example of kindness.

Wisdom I think is something that comes with learning. Trial and error leads to good advice and solve wisdom. Learn from the Lord and push yourself to be some who grows in wisdom.

Proverbs “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

I once had a thought that I did not want my hands to age. How silly right? My thought was that no matter how young your face looks, your hands give you away.

No one wants to be seen as old and out of it, so having old hands is going to just throw a wrench in my plan. Now what does this have to do with the verse.

Well I got out of that silly I don’t want my hands to be old mindset by thinking of how when someone sees my hands I want to them to see the works I have done.

The children I have cherished with these hands by holding them, doing their hair, cooking with them. The house that I kept to honor my Lord and to take care of my family. The life that I lead.

It will all show in our hands. We should honor our hands for all they have done and all they will do to exalt the Lord. Our work as woman and mothers is irreplaceable, and we do this work with our hands and hearts.

Isaiah 66:13 “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.”

It is so incredible to be compared to the Lord. The love we have for our kids is the love the Lord feels for us.

It also shows that one of the things that as mothers we do is comfort. We comfort our little babes just like God will comfort us.

I found this to be so rewarding. To be in comparison, with the love, the Lord has, that is so crazy to me. What becomes our day-to-day is a calling from the Lord. To come for our children to love our children to be a good example to our children.

We may think it to be very minuscule, or mundane to comfort our children day in and day out. This is just what we do right? As moms we are a comfort. We are their safe space and their home.

Being a mother and to embrace our feminine side and gentleness that is important to be the piece of the world we need to be in called of God.

Kissing the booboos, wiping the tears away, reading books, singing songs, playing games with your kids, these are all things that can comfort our children. They are great ways to honor the Lord.

Psalm 139:13-14 “ For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

For I am fearfully and wonderfully made. What a thing to say right? You were meant to be, just as your kids are meant to be.

Being a mother is integral to God‘s plan. Without the womb he could not knit us together to be so wonderfully made.

As mothers are a huge piece of this world, of God’s plan. We are needed to knit more children into the world and raise them as God intended.

I love that I am a mother and that even now my kids are born I am helping knit them into the beautiful children of God that they are meant to be.

Psalm 127:3 “Children are God’s love-gift; they are heaven’s generous reward.”

Our kids will always be the most important thing. They are a huge blessing and I love that this verse refers to them as a reward. They are! They are the reward to being here, they are what brings the most light to the world.

When we have kids we can comprehend the love that the Lord has for us. The immeasurable love that we have for our kids is a gift.

If being a mother mean you get a gift from heaven why wouldn’t you do it right? By having kids we are opening our arms and hearts to the reward of heaven and how bada** is that?? We can have a reward from the Lord.

Children are such a light in general so it makes sense that they are a reward from the Lord. They bring such joy. I truly think that there is no better noise than the laughter of my kids having a childhood. That alone is a reward from heaven.

By loving your kids and rejoicing in them you wil grow closer to God.

Proverbs 22:6 “Train children in the way they should go when they grow old, they won’t depart from it.”

My mother and I do not always see eye to eye, our relationship has been very rocky for a long time. But something that I will always be so grateful for is that she instilled the love of Christ in my heart from a young age.

My faith has helped me through so many tough times and I am so glad that I was trained in the way that the Lord intended.

Raising our children to be good Christians is important. To help make sure they do not depart from the Lord and how He needs them to be.

The faith of a small child is so certain and so full of conviction. Lucy is so firm in her faith in Christ and I want to nurture that love so that it will never leave her just as mine has never left.

I intend to make an effort day in and day out to raise good, loving, kind children who have an unmovable faith in the Lord.

The Bible says so many wonderful things to say about Mothers, it lines out the importance that our role in this world is. Truly without the role and guidance of a mother the world would not be the same.

Never forget that momma, you are so important to the Lord and the work you are doing in your home raising those little loves is so crucial. It will change the world. You got this momma!
